Enjoy an evening of baseball at McCoy Stadium with the PawSox and friends from Good Shepherd on Tuesday, July 28; first pitch is at 7:05pm. The PawSox will be playing the Norfolk Tides, AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Tickets are $11 and are available from Dennis Tripodi.
On Saturday, September 26th at 6:30 at Twelve Acres, Route 7 in Smithfield, the parish will host a Wine and Beer Tasting Event, an evening of fun and fellowship to benefit the ministry and outreach of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Your support is needed now. How? Save the date and invite friends to buy a ticket and come with you. Volunteer to help out now or at the time of the event. Donate an item for the silent auction, for example a themed basket or a gift card to a local attraction or ask Dennis or Karen Tripodi for suggestions. More to come……….
Summer and ongoing Outreach Programs:
The last day of school in Pawtucket was June 25th; back to school sales will start right after July 4th. Crazy!? Yes! But, it is time to show our support for the students and teachers at the Winters School with our annual “Tools for School” collection which will run through Labor Day. What we collected last year is long gone! Needed are glue sticks, crayons, pencils of all kinds, pens, white board markers, spiral notebooks, etc. plus boxes of tissues. Reams and reams of white copy paper are always needed. We will use donations to buy the colored copy paper the school needs for notices to send home.
But, should you be baking or eating certain brands of cereal or ??, watch for those small “Box tops for Education” coupons. Please don’t throw them out; cut them out! They are very valuable to the librarian at the Winters School for purchasing books. This is a “free”way to lend your support to the kids; mail coupons to the church or put them in the bag at the back of the church. Thanks.
The work of the Outreach Committee is divided into the events that require our active participation, such as Fun Friday and Tools for School, and the donations of money we make in the name of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
In the first six months ot 2015 these donations were made:
$150, Amos House Project Renewal for work with women in need
$150, The Blessing Way for a scholarship for a handyman course
$200, The Diocese of West Texas for flood relief
$250, Episcopal Relief & Development for help after the Nepal earthquakes
$125, The RI State Council of Churches, esp. for advocacy in the General Assembly
